Roobibos (Aspalathus Linearis) Red Tea, Spectacular Herb, Did You Know?

Did you know That Rooibos (Tea) pronounced Roy- Bus, African for Red Bush, is a broom-like member of the legume family of plants growing in a small area in the Western Cape, province in the South African Cedarberg Mountains, has been long known for its many medicinal properties?  Rooibos soothes upset stomachs, aids in digestion, calms nervous tension, and provides relief from allergies such as eczema. Rooibos is an excellent source of antioxidants, which appear to reduce the risk of certain chronic diseases including cancer. Studies show that Rooibos can promote healthy skin, teeth, and bones as well as lower blood pressure and protect against heart disease. Naturally caffeine-free and rich in vitamins and minerals, including Vitamin C and E as well iron, zinc, potassium and calcium.  Rooibos has an adaptogenic and anti-spasmodic effect which promotes restful sleep and relaxation.
There have been questions about fermented and unfermented rooibos tea. So I did some research and have found the difference between fermented (red) and unfermented (green) forms of rooibos tea.
Rooibos tea leaves can be quickly dried after picking to prevent oxidation and this is called green rooibos. When rooibos tea leaves are fermented, they turn an orange red color. The unfermented green rooibos tea has a higher antioxidant level. Fermented rooibos tea has a sweeter taste.  I started drinking this tea about 13 years ago and find it to be one of my favorites!
Rooibos is completely safe for pregnant and breastfeeding women, as well as children.
